Jalgaon - on World's Map

When some changes happen in life, they really make you smile, they make you cry. One such morning brought a good news and it made me nostalgic about a city where I was born almost 25 years ago. Jalgaon , the city where I was born and brought up and where my parents and rest of the relatives live , has been placed on World's map today in reality.
The news had some mixed rections from me. It has made my day for sure and I or anybody infact would have never imagined in their rarest dreams about this news. Pratibha Patil , current Governor of Rajasthan and first woman candidate for President's election, hails from Jalgaon. It will be a golden moment in history of city that the first citizen of India will be from Jalgaon(if all goes well). Considering the current political scenario ,I am 90% sure of her getting selected as a President. Opposing candidate Bhaironsingh Shekhawat has really nothing to lose and even NDA is not supporting him full heartedly, while UPA has chosen Pratibha Patil without a minute hestitation for President's election.
But the reality is different. Presidents are just the mockery for leading parties in India. They have hardly anything to do in real politics which matter in day-to-day life of comman man. If somebody ask me to list all Presidents till date, I really tell you that I can confidently tell the names of only Rajendra Prasad and APJ Abdul Kalam , Former being the first and APJ being the scientist behind India's nuclear strength. Rest of the list will just lie in history and civics books for teaching purposes. You can guess the importance of President in one's life. Waise to PM ka bhi kuch matlab nahi hain..per..
Pratibha Patil has done her college education from M.J.College,Jalgaon and further she graduated from Law College, Bombay. This is just to let you know that I was also in M.J.College for my 11th and 12th :-).
On serious matter, I don't support her as a President. With the background of President APJ Abdul Kalam, the things should have changed and he should have persisted for President's post. But finally it's dirty game of politics. Morally , I support her for two reasons. First , she is the first woman candidate and second .....

Update - I was wrong. My poor history knowledge. She is not the first woman candidate for President's election. Before this, Manohara Holkar (against Dr. Zakir Hussain), Furcharan Kaur(against V.V.Giri and N Sanjeeva Reddy), Lakshmi Sehgal(against Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam) were other women candidates for Presidential election.

didn't know she was from jalgon, u seem to be very happy :):), I was hoping kalam would be president for another term :(, the presidents post doesn't have that much power but he was an inspiring leader, what a man, his writings, his thoughts, his intelluct, he was a worthy occupant of the throne, shouldn't have been dethroned so quickly

there's a certain pride that comes with one's own city/town/village isn't it ???? I wish i could relate thus to one hometown...having lived in tons of places as a child growing up in a household with parents in transferable jobs, i find it so hard to relate to one place with such pride. guess, thats why the whole of India feels like home. :)
